Renegade Theatre, in partnership with the Venture Community Association, received a grant of £49,800 from the National Lottery for a year long project entitled The Wornington Word: A People’s History of The Wornington Green Estate W10.

Made possible with money raised by National Lottery players, the project will record and archive the history of the estates residents from the 1960's up to recent times with oral histories, photos and a documentary that will eventually be archived in Kensington Central and North Kensington Libraries.

The project will focus on the residents of the social housing estate bound by Portobello Rd, Golborne Rd Market and Ladbroke Grove in North Kensington. There will be three time frames: 1970 to 1974, 1990 to 1994 and 2007 to 2011 in order to encompass the stories of the estate from when it opened through to when the regeneration began.

The Wornington Word website will host all the oral histories and collect photos throughout the year, as well as informing residents and locals of free workshops including photography, audio editing, oral history and how to make a documentary.

The project will end in December 2019 when a celebration at Venture Centre will be held to screen the resident led documentary which will then be entered into the 2020 Portobello Film Festival.
